Spotlight on E-mobility in Eastern Africa Leveraging economic, social and environmental changeAcacia Premier Hotel,
November 20, 2019 @ 8:30 am - 4:00 pm
Siemens Stiftung (Foundation) together with its partners United Nations Environment (UNEP), Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), “Powering Agriculture” with its partners and WeTu invite you to a spotlight meeting on e-mobility in Eastern Africa, at the Acacia Premier Hotel in Kisumu, Kenya.
Mobility is a prerequisite for the entire development of a country
It provides the population with access to jobs, markets, social services, and health care. In addition, mobility itself creates jobs and is central to environmental protection and CO2 savings. The current mobility requirements in sub-Saharan Africa are changing due to megatrends, such as urbanization and population growth. These changing requirements and the still relatively small number of vehicles today offer a unique opportunity: if innovation and access to sustainable mobility solutions are promoted, there is a possibility for leapfrogging to modern e-vehicles quickly.
E-mobility solutions help to strengthen the economic capacity of regions and to fight poverty, combat unemployment through skills training and future jobs and to promote climate sustainability. Legal and policy aspects are important elements of a successful transformation as is the involvement of political and community structures.
This roundtable meeting aims at providing a forum for discussing the introduction of e-mobility solutions in Eastern Africa. We shed light on the status quo of e-mobility with updates by the various stakeholders already active in the field. The target group of the event are experts from the private sector, government, international organizations, and NGOs as well as academia.
